Poortje is also a fully functional farm which sustains both a heard of cattle as well as providing a yearly crop yield of varying sort. Some years ago it was decided that its tranquil valley would be the ideal hide away spot for an overworked soul and so Poortje Game Farm was born. Soon the Stone Chalets were erected along with the Kitchen, Bathrooms, Lapa and game fence put up. The Wood Cabins are a more resent expansion of the facilities to help accommodate larger groups of people, put up in wood with their own unique character and style to blend into the bushes they were built within.
Poortje offers visitors an opportunity to experience the tranquility of the Free State while they relax in rustic but comfortable stone cottages or quaint wood cabins, surrounded by an array of wildlife on the farm. Visitors can come and enjoy the farm environment with game, cattle, sheep and fresh air for the whole family.
Poortje provides one with the perfect breakaway destination to recharge mind and soul, where stars fill the night sky as choruses of crickets sing the evenings away. It is here that life's pace slows down to a tranquil hike among the game on the farm or the simple chatter of friends around a camp fire, transporting visitors to a different time and space.

An absolute peaceful place where one can recharge batteries and rest, simply just rest whilst gazing at the stars at night and watch the playful wildlife at day. We will definitely visit again!

We enjoyed a wonderful stay of several days with extended family from SA, Australia and New Zealand in late May. The facilities were excellent; and the hosts and staff were very helpful. The quiet was a true gift -- along with the full moon! We were also impressed by the effective use of solar lights -- quite sufficient for the needs of our large family group.
We walked (and some rode) a lot -- it's an ideal venue for getting out, enjoying the views, and spotting the game. To top it all, the price was really reasonable.
We'll definitely be back!
